A Great Time At Windy Hill Baptist Church

During our 3rd week of revival in the Pensacola area, we had a wonderful time ministering at Windy Hill Baptist Church.

We had great crowds all week long and it was so much fun to be with this loving fellowship.

Before the service, some of the girls took time out for a photo with Christy. During the revival on Sunday morning, a 7 year old girl was saved.

On Children's Night, the kids sang a song for everyone during the service.

Two Saved at Lakeview Baptist Church Revival

We had 2 young people saved during our revival at Lakeview Baptist Church in Pensacola. Pictured here from left to right is pastor, Charles Mitchell, Matthew and his father. Matthew came forward during the invitation time at the close of the service on Sunday morning to ask Jesus into his life.

On youth night of the revival, the church had a pizza fellowship time before the service. Christy, with some of the gang enjoying the free pizza and soft drinks.

There was a great spirit of fellowship during our services at Lakeview, with lots of love and hugs to go around!

Revival at Bellview Baptist Church, Pensacola, FL

We had a fun time at our first church in Florida, Bellview Baptist. They have a great group of young people there. Pictured on the left is Taylor, playing Paul's Taylor guitar! Packing Up and Heading for Florida

During the months of March and April, we will be ministering in revivals around the Pensacola, FL area. We will be teaming up again with evangelist, Rick Ingle and his wife Betty from Denton, TX. Our revival team has been coming to the Florida area for a number of years now to minister in smaller churches in revival services. We have seen God move in a great way over the years in many of our meetings there.During our time in Florida, we will be responsible for paying all of our own travel and living expenses while serving in these churches. Diesel fuel in Florida always seems to be higher than in any other state along the way.
We will both be taking our travel trailers with us and will be staying at the Pensacola RV Park. That way us and the Ingles' have a safe and convenient "central home base" that has reliable electricity, water hookups, an Internet connection and last but certainly not least, sewer connections! LOL Please keep us in your prayers as we sing and share the name of Jesus Christ during our two months in the panhandle area of Florida.

Celebrating our 30th Year of Music Evangelism in 2011

As we begin our 30th year traveling in full-time vocational ministry, we are excited about the opportunities the Lord has in store for us in 2011. Even though our schedule at this time is not as full as we would like it to be, we are looking forward to getting back on the road after taking some time off this past winter to rest and recharge our batteries. Seems like the older we get, the more we look forward to that time of rest at the end of each year! Since we have had some time off at home this past winter, we have been trying to catch up on some maintenance of our web site and blog. We have added some new pictures and have done some minor "tweeking" to update our web site as well. We are also trying to become more efficient in communicating with our partners in ministry, so we are beginning to compile a list of email addresses in addition to our normal mailing list. A Cowboy Christmas in Oklahoma

In December, we traveled up to Lenapah, OK and sang at the Cowboy Bunkhouse Christmas Banquet, sponsored by Steve Cody Ministries. Steve's wife Mary, along with their daughter do all of the cooking for the event each year. It is a great time of fellowship during the Christmas season where they offer all the folks in their community a free meal and some fun along with it. There had already been over 130 dinner reservations made for that night and we were all amazed when 180 folks showed up to eat! Mary and the kitchen crew had to do some last minute scrambling but everyone was served a meal. The Codys really do things right with a beautifully decorated venue, delicious food, and plenty of great door prizes. We led in worship and evangelist Herman Cramer from Seguin, TX was the guest speaker. Steve offered an invitation at the end of the service and 13 folks received Christ that night! It was a wonderful way to end another year of ministry for us.

Holy Land Trip - 2010

In November, we had the opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream when we traveled to the Holy Land with a group from our home church, Fielder Road Baptist in Arlington, TX. When Paul was in college at Wayland Baptist University, he was a member of a small singing group called the Spirit of America Singers. They were invited to spend 6 weeks during the summer of 1976, entertaining on a cruise ship that sailed on the Mediterranean Sea and visited the Holy Lands and the Greek Isles. One of Paul's dreams has always been to one day take Christy to the Holy Land. This is a picture of us at the Mount of Beatitudes where Jesus preached the "Sermon on the Mount" along the shores of the Sea of Galilee.

We were invited by some of our friends, David and Debbie Burk, to join their group as they hosted a trip to Israel, Egypt and Greece. We were excited that friends and fellow traveling Christian musicians, Sherman and Tammy Aten were also able to join us on the trip. This is a picture of Christy, Sherman, Tammy and David as we began our day of touring on the Sea of Galilee.

We knew this trip would also be a great opportunity for us to get to know our pastor, Dr. Gary Smith, and some of the other members of our home church better. Pictured here is Bro. The coliseum we are seated in held over 25,000 people during ancient Biblical times.

The ruins of Ephesus where the apostle Paul preached, was one of the highlights of our trip to the Holy Land. The ruins, located along the shores of the country of Turkey, were just breathtaking to see and experience.

Another stop on our tour was in Egypt. Pictured on the left, we are standing in front of one of the Great Pyramids of Giza.
During that day, we also toured the Egyptian Museum and the Great Sphinx but we opted out on riding on one of those smelly old camels, pictured below!
As we thought and prayed about going on this trip to the Holy Land, our desire to visit the region where Jesus walked, taught and lived so long ago began to grow in our hearts. In the last 5 years, there have been many times that we did not know if Paul was going to make it through all of the health issues that he had been facing. For us it seemed almost impossible to make the trip because we were still paying off the bills from Paul's colon surgery and frequent hospital stays while battling ulcerative colitis. You see, we have had friends who planned and dreamed all their lives about the things they were going to do when they retired, but none of their dreams came true because of illness or death. So we decided to borrow some money from our retirement account to make the trip. Our time in the Holy Land was a new beginning for the both of us.

Here we are pictured standing in front of the entrance to the Garden Tomb, just outside of the city of Jerusalem. The Bible says in Luke 23 that after His crucifixion, Jesus Christ was taken down from the cross and buried in a new, unused tomb hewn into the rock at the side of a hill.

On the right is a picture of the "Eastern Gate" entrance, where the Bible proclaims that Jesus will someday return in all His Glory!

On the left is a photo of Tammy Aten, Debbie Burk and Christy in front of the ruins of the city of Corinth, where the apostle Paul worked for 3 years in the 1st century AD. During the 3rd century BC, Corinth was the largest, richest and most pleasure-loving city in all of ancient Greece.

On the right is a photo of the "Wailing Wall" in the old city of Jerusalem, one of the most sacred sites to the Jewish people in all of Israel. It is a remnant of the ancient "Western Wall" that surrounded the Jewish Temple courtyard. It was constructed around 19th century BC by Harod the Great.

The last stop on our trip was a tour of the magnificent capital city of Athens, Greece. Athens is one of the oldest cities in the world, spanning around 3,400 years of recorded history. It is widely referred to as the cradle of Western civilization and the birthplace of democracy. The photo on the left is a picture of the Parthenon, a massive structure completed in 438 BC and dedicated to the Greek goddess, Athena. During his 2nd missionary journey in the 1st century AD, the apostle Paul wrote in Acts 17 that he was deeply troubled by all the idols he saw everywhere throughout the city. Paul spoke about an altar he saw with the inscription on it, "To the Unknown God". On the right is a picture of Mars Hill as it stands today, overlooking the city where Paul preached to the "men of Athens" about the message of Jesus Christ.

It was an unbelievable moment for the girls, having come such a long way from their high school days together back in Floydada, TX! Walking and singing together with our dearest friends along the paths where Jesus walked so long ago, was an inexpressible joy for us! We hope to one day go back as tour hosts to the Holy Land to share this incredible experience with others. The Country Boys Ride Again...

One of the real blessings in our lives have been the close friendships we have been able to maintain over the years. Paul has kept in touch with a couple of his college buddies and they have sung together off and on at various times over the years. They call themselves The Country Boys, even though none of them ever grew up in the country or ever did any real work on the farm. Well, there was this one time Christy's dad put Paul in charge of changing water on the cotton crop out in west Texas. Paul got the pickup truck stuck in the mud checking to see if the water had made it to the end of the field. Guess what? The water was out! Guess that tells you all you need to know about how "City Boys" do things.

The Country Boys are comprised of David Hunt, Minister of Music at First Baptist Church in Dennis, TX, Barry Feriend, Elementary Music Teacher and part time Minister of Music in Weatherford, TX and me! I play the banjo, guitar and sing the high tenor parts...well, not as high as I use to mind you! David sings bass and plays the piano and bass guitar. Barry sings the lead tenor and plays the guitar as well.

Recently, the group had the honor to sing a concert at a fund raising banquet for Trinity United Methodist Church in Arlington. The banquet was held in one of the dining rooms at the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.

Earlier in the afternoon, our group got the opportunity to tour Cowboys Stadium with our wives before the performance that night. Barry's wife, Ann, and David's wife, Kathi are kicking up their heels with Christy for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders auditions next year! NOT!!!

The Country Boys will be performing at Northside Baptist Church in Weatherford, TX on Friday evening, May 20, 2011. They will be sharing the stage that evening with the Southern Gospel quartet, Crimson River, pictured here. The Country Boys will also be singing a full concert on Sunday evening, May 29th at First Baptist Church in Dennis, TX.

Getting The Axe!!!

We woke up on a Saturday morning in October, 2010 to find a big pick axe sticking out of the end of our travel trailer. A police officer knocked on the door of our home in Arlington where our travel trailer was parked for the night and informed us of the vandelism. We made out a police report and turned the matter over to our insurance company for repairs. We are just thankful no other damages were done to our trailer. Just shows you what a crazy world we live in these days! Amen?

REAP Revivals Summer, 2010

This past summer, we participated again in REAP (Rural Evangelism Associational Partnership) revivals in and around the Crockett, TX area. We teamed up with evangelist, Herman Cramer from Seguin, TX. Pictured here is Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, which was established in 1862. The building where the congregation meets now was built in the 1940's. In order to get to the church we had to pull our trailers down a road that started out paved, then turned to gravel, and then to dirt just before we arrived at the church! Kind of shoots that notion of "location, location, location" out the window! LOL We participated in 7 weeks of revivals in small rural churches like this in the Neches River Baptist Association. We feel like we are with "family" when we are serving with these churches. There is always lots of fun and laughter, plus the Lord always seems to do something special during our time together.

We head out tomorrow for our first revival in a month. Paul is doing great! The doctor was very pleased with his recovery. We will be in the Crockett area for REAP (rural evangelism associational partnership) revivals with Bro. Herman Cramer. We will be ministering for several weeks in small churches around Crockett. There won't be a lot of travel between meetings, and we are close enough to come home if necessary. Thank you for your prayers for us!

Recovering

We have been home for 2 weeks, and Paul is doing well. He has been working in our yard and has it looking beautiful. He kind of over did it when he first got home because he felt so much better. Had a day when he hit the wall. Slept all afternoon, then got up for a few hours to watch the Rangers game then back to bed. He felt better the next day. Had first doctor appointment after the surgery. The surgeon was very encouraged with Paul's progess. Praise the Lord!

We came home on Sunday. I crashed and went to bed and Paul watched sports, sports, sports, on his big tv. He is doing very well today (Monday). He has spent a lot of the day puttering aroung the yard enjoying being home.

Disappointed again

It is Saturday morning and we were hoping to be going home, but alas we will be in the hospital one more day. The doctor came in at 6am, and after talking to a very sleepy Paul decided he needed one more day here. The doctor is concerned about dehydration and wants to give Paul a little more time for his body to adapt to real food going through his system. He has prescribed meds to slow slown down the process, we will see him again this afternoon. However, we probably won't get out of here at least until tomorrow. Pray for Paul. He was reeeeeally disappointed. Me too.

Friday Set Back

Paul was supposed to come home today, but we have to stay one more night in the hospital. Paul ate 3 meals yesterday and was tolerating the food very well during the day. However, after supper he had some problems, and spent most of the night in the bathroom giving the new plumbing a workout. The doctor said one more day in the hospital to see how he did on the food today. The nurses warned him to take it easy on the eating, but he felt so much better that he pushed the edge. He pledged to be more cautious today. He was very disappointed, but I am glad we had this experince while still in the hospital. It would have been worse to get home only to return to the ER.

Wednesday Day after surgery

Paul was very tired today. He had lots of company in the afternoon after surgery. He remembers most of the visits. He was in and out of sleep that day. Tuesday night he was restless, but we finally both were able to rest from about 3 am to 6 am when the doctor came in. He was disappointed when the doc said he couldn't have anything to eat until Thursday. He slept most of the day. I left at noon go home for awhile. Before I left, the tech brought a tray in with a liquid diet on it. Before I could find the nurse to ask if the doctor had changed his orders about Paul eating, the tech came back in and took the tray away. She had delivered it by mistake. Paul was one sad puppy. However that afternoon, the doctor came back and was so pleased with is progress that he allowed him to have a liquid diet tray for supper.

Thursday morning I received a text from Paul. The doctor had just been there at 6 am and said he would let him have food today. If he does well, he will come home on Friday! We are both so excited. He is so much stronger physically for this surgery than he was for the last one in November which means a quicker recovery.

We left our house at 4:45 am to go to Dallas Medical Center in Dallas for Paul's ostomy reversal surgery. Best Friend Debbie Burk took us to the hospital and stayed with Christy during the surgery. Paul went in at 7:15 and was in recovery by 8:30am.
He is still sleepy, and enjoying his morphine pump. He had several visitors and stayed awake for most of them. He has already been out of bed once. They are not allowing him to eat anything yet. They are letting the small intestine and j-pouch on the inside rest to let them heal a little longer. He is hungry, but can only have sips of water. The next hurdle is making sure the new plumbing works and adjusting to a new lifestyle. The surgeon was happy with the surgery and Paul's condition. He is much stronger this time than when we were here in November for the removal of the colon. Probably won't see the surgeon until early in the morning.

He is bummed a little because this hospital doen't have Fox Sports Southwest, so we can watch the Rangers. Thanks for all the prayers.

We averaged around 20 folks each night of the revival.

Pioneer Mission Revival in Cheraw, Colorado

Cheraw Baptist Chapel averaged around 12 in Sunday School but we had a record of 40 in attendance during the revival.

One of the unusual things about this church was a huge old grain elevator that stood right in front of church building.

We had a total of 10 professions of faith in Christ during our week of revival.

Pioneer Mission Revival in Ignacio, Colorado

Our first pioneer mission revival in July took place at First Baptist Church in Ignacio.

During the weekend revival, we had 5 saved and 3 were baptized when the meeting was over. On Saturday night, we had over 40 in attendance.

Bump in the Road in April, 2007

In April, while visiting friends in Arlington, TX, a man ran a red light and we ran into him with our new Ford truck! Thankfully, no one was hurt in the accident. Our truck was in the repair shop for almost a month. David and Debbie Burk from Arlington, loaned us their truck for a month so we could continue our revival and concert schedule. We "Praise the Lord" for friends like that!!!

Although it rained most of the time during our week of revival, the tent held up well in spite of the bad weather.

Our 2005 Teton Travel Trailer

These are a couple of pictures of our 37 ft. Teton 5th wheel travel trailer that we live in while traveling on the road, singing for the Lord. We bought it new in 2005. It has all the comforts of home and only needs water and electrical hookups. Most of the time we park it right on the church parking lot where we are serving during the week. We are usually traveling and ministering on the road an average of over 40 weeks a year!

We have been ministering in full-time music evangelism since 1981. Traveling all over the United States and in several foreign countries, we have sung together in over 1000 revivals, concerts, retreats and camps. We have also participated in pioneer mission work in Canada, Ohio, Montana, Colorado, New Mexico, New York, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Massachusetts, as well as an evangelistic crusade to Brazil. While on the road an average of 40 weeks a year ministering in churches, we live in a 37ft 5th wheel travel trailer that we pull with our Ford diesel truck. We both met in college while attending Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas where we performed together in the International Choir and the Spirit of America Singers. We are both graduates of Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas where Christy received a Bachelor of Arts degree and Paul obtained a Masters Degree in Music. Christy plays keyboard and Paul plays the 5 string banjo. We both play the guitar as well. We have made 5 gospel recordings over the years. Our main goal in life is to be given the opportunity to share the message of Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world with the gifts God has given to us through the ministry of music.
